In music, note values tell us how long to hold a note, while rests tell us how long to remain silent. Every note has a corresponding rest of the same duration.
Memory Tip
Think of a pizza:
🍕 Whole Note = Entire pizza (4 beats)
🍕🍕 Half Notes = Two halves (2 beats each)
🍕🍕🍕🍕 Quarter Notes = Four slices (1 beat each)
🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕 Eighth Notes = Eight smaller slices (½ beat each)
The same division applies to the corresponding rests.

For piano beginners, it is usually best to learn in this order:
Whole Note → Half Note → Quarter Note → Quarter Rest → Eighth Note → Eighth Rest → Sixteenth Note → Sixteenth Rest. This sequence helps students understand rhythm gradually.
