A key signature is a group of sharps (#) or flats (♭) placed at the beginning of a staff, immediately after the clef sign.
The key signature tells us which notes are consistently sharp or flat throughout a piece of music.
Why Do We Use Key Signatures?
- To avoid writing accidentals repeatedly.
- To identify the key of a piece quickly.
- To help musicians understand the tonal center of the music.
